Chi Typeface®

The name "Chi" traces back to ancient Greek. Chi draws its inspiration from the Greek letter "χ" (chi), symbolizing creation and divinity. Its association with "X" in "Xmas," representing "Christ" (Χριστός), aligns with my belief in "God as the designer." This belief shapes my typeface Chi's organic and humanistic essence.
In alignment with Paul Rand's perspective on design, I see creativity as a collaboration with the divine. As Rand stated, "There is no difference between a designer and an artist. They both work with form and content. I try to create art, whether I make it or not is not up to me—it's up to God."

Embracing imperfection, Chi mirrors the imperfections of the human hand. Guided by principles of harmony and inspired by nature and history, Chi embodies a balance that resonates with the human eye.
Chi isn't just a typeface; it's a philosophical reflection on my belief and perspective for design—the convergence of creativity, divinity, imperfection, and harmony in graphic design and typography.

Inspired by the nature of handwritten calligraphy, Chi Typeface aims to bring typography back to its origins. It features squared terminal shapes deriving from broad nib pen with a low contrast between thick and thin strokes.
The square-shaped terminals and rounded, smooth curves together create harmony and juxtaposition, evoking a sense of contemporary and traditional elegance. Versatile in application, it can work effectively in both large and small scales, making it suitable for use as display and body text.

“I Hate Conceptual Ideas
And This Typeface Is Born From That.”

I prioritize creating designs that resonate with my audience, emphasizing connection over personal expression alone. When these connections are established, I feel inspired knowing that my work is understood and appreciated.
Fototype, originally conceived as a conceptual idea during my thesis exploration of methodology, also serves as a constant reminder to prioritize understanding, ensuring that my designs are accessible and meaningful to all who encounter them.

Fototype was inspired by my working methodology as a designer, photographer, and typographer. The concept of "connections" holds great significance to me, signifying the alignment of perspectives between myself, my clients, and my audience.
FOTOTYPE IS A TYPEFACE INSPIRED BY THE INTRICATE CONNECTIONS FOUND WITHIN THE REALM OF IDEAS AND CONCEPTS.
WITH AN EXPANSIVE RANGE OF WEIGHTS, IT EMBODIES BOTH STRENGTH AND DELICACY. DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM SLAB SERIF TYPEFACES LIKE ROCKWELL AND THE ROBUSTNESS OF ARCHITECTURAL STRUCTURES, FOTOTYPE EXUDES A SENSE OF STABILITY AKIN TO STURDY COLUMNS. IN ITS LARGER SIZES, IT PROJECTS A RIGID SOLIDITY, WHILE IN SMALLER SIZES, IT REVEALS DELICATE INTRICACIES, CREATING A HARMONIOUS JUXTAPOSITION OF STRENGTH AND FINESSE.
